The NPPA (National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority) recently has withdrawn internal guidelines which hold control on over pricing of several essential, non-essential drugs distributed in India. It is said that this withdrawal includes 108 formulations related with serious ailments such as diabetics and cardiovascular etc.

The NPPA circular of September 22, 2104 is the basis for withdrawal of existing Internal Guidelines dated 29.05.2014 on fixing and changing prices of scheduled and non-scheduled formulations under paragraph 19 of DPCO, 2013.

The current PIL is lodged by Manohar Lal Shrama who himself is a practicing advocate.  His pleading reads that withdrawal of the circular would endanger millions of ailed persons who will face uphill task in meeting increased drug price following the decontrol.
